Photojournalists often have to work a lot harder to take a striking image. Photojournalists are essentially there to report the facts with a camera and this means limited manipulation. Photojournalism is not about models and having people pose in various positions, it’s simply about taking factual photographs of the situation and subjects you’re presented with.
More and more people digitally edit their photographs today and photojournalists must only edit to a degree that does not damage the meaning of the image. There should never be cloning or the addition of items that did not exist at the event or situation and photojournalists should be strict whilst constantly making sure they do not overstep the boundaries.
That’s why they have to work hard to gain a striking image because they can’t have poses come their way and they can’t overdo the image with photo editing, and we should all take the time to appreciate the work of news photographers and photojournalists every once in a while because catching the right image is down to skill and patience.
